Gondola Ride is one of the key attractions in Gulmarg. It is the world’s second highest and tallest cable car. Gondola ride in the winter is a treat for the eyes and one of the most memorable experiences to do in Gulmarg. It offers panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and birds eye views of the entire valley. 

The starting point of the ropeway is approximately 20 mins from Gulmarg and the taxis are easily available.

Stages of Gulmarg Ropeways    

Gondola rides are available for phase I & II and phase III can be reached via chairlift.  The cable car ferries 6 people at a time and 600 people per hour.


Phase I - Gulmarg - Kongdori route (8530 ft.) 

Cost : INR 740 per person | Duration : 9mins

Winter activities such as skiing, ATV, Snowmobile, Sledging, ice skating etc. are held at Kangdori Station. There are multiple stalls for snacks and Kawha (tea). 

* Free for children below 3 years.


Phase II - Kongdori Station to Aparwath route (8530 ft.-12293 ft.) 

Cost : INR 910 | Duration : 12 mins

Aparwath station has fewer crowds as compared to Kangdori. The major attraction here would be views of snow covered mountain peaks, LOC on clear days and skiing. You can trek to the frozen lake to Al-Pather lake.  

> Aparwath station is open for tourist only if the weather permits.

> People with heart diseases or breathing issues and children under 3 are not allowed here. 


Phase III - Kongdori Station to Mary Shoulder (12293 ft. - 12959 ft.) 

Phase III is the highest point and can be visited if weather permits. The chairlift connects Kongdori Station to Mary Shoulder and the duration is approximately 11 mins. It is mostly used by professional skiers. Children below the age of 11 years are not allowed. 



Daily Timings for Gondola Ride

Winter Summer
Phase-I 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Phase-II 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- Ticket Counter Timings : 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (daily)

- You need to buy Phase-I tickets prior booking for Phase-II. 

- Penalty is levied if missed the appointed slot.

- Timings are subject to weather conditions

 How To Reach?

Gulmarg is well connected by road to the major cities.

Airport :

Sheikh Ul Alam International Airport also called Srinagar Airport. It is around 56 km from Gulmarg and taxis / jeeps are available just outside the airport.


Railways :

There are no direct trains for Srinagar or Gulmarg. so the route would be - 

▪️ Delhi to Udhampur by Train (Duration : 12 hrs) 

▪️ Udhampur to Banihal by Van or Bus (Duration : 5 hrs)

▪️ Banihal to Srinagar by unreserved passenger train (Duration : 2 hrs) 

▪️ Srinagar to Gulmarg by jeep or car (Duration : 1.5 - 2 hrs) 

- The car Journey from Udhampur to Gulmarg is about  7-8 hrs. but it would give little dent in your pocket.


By Road

The national highway 1-A connects Gulmarg to major cities. State owned and private deluxe buses are frequently available.



Basic Information

▪️ Boarding the cable car is not allowed after expiry of the timing. So try to be on time.

▪️ Rides are packed up during peak season. Book online tickets to avoid the queue.

▪️ The boarding pass will be valid for 3 hours. If the pass is given at 3pm then it will be valid for only 2 hours as the closing timing is 5pm.  

▪️ The weather is freezing cold stock up with proper layers and gears.  

▪️ Jackets, raincoat and shoes are available on rent at Tangmarg and Gulmarg.

▪️ Gulmarg is no polythene zone.
