From Havelock jetty we hired an auto rickshaw to reach our resort, you'll find these readily available just outside the jetty area. Our booking was at TGS Blue Resort and Spa

After reaching and settling into the accommodation, it's time to start exploring the beauty of Havelock Island. Since our resort was very close to the famous Radhanagar Beach, we decided to stroll on the beach.

There is a secluded place just 10-15 minutes walking to the right side of the Radhanagar beach called the Neil's Cove— a solitary stretch of water resembling a lagoon,  giving off Maldives-like vibes.

After enjoying moments of tranquility at Neil's Cove, we came back to main beach area to watch the most remarkable sunsets at world's 7th most beautiful beach⎯Radhanagar Beach (sunset around 5pm).

Sunset at Radhanagar Beach

Sunset at Radhanagar Beach

Radhanagar Beach holds the title of world's 7th most beautiful beach.

Radhanagar Beach is also referred as Beach No. 7, it is a gorgeous stretch of soft white powdery sand with turquoise blue water. The beach is very serene and calming, even though, surrounded by tourists to watch the epic sunset.

For me, it was a moment of peace and stillness, sitting and watching the sun sinking into the horizon, painting the sky with hues of pink, purple, gold and crimson.

To experience the true essence of the Island, consider renting a two-wheeler, lots of shops in the market rent scooty or you can ask at your stay to get one for you. It will take less than 3 hrs. to explore the whole island, but it's among the finest ways to discover Havelock Island.

EXPLORING THRILLING HAVELOCK ISLAND

Havelock Island is gifted with some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world with Crystal-clear waters, white powdery sand, stunning marine life and lush green trees.

Havelock was associated with the first war of independence in 1857. In December 2018, Havelock Island was renamed, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as Swaraj Deep, previously it was named after a British general, Sir Henry Havelock, who served in India. Neil Island  was also renamed as Shaheed Dweep.

Sunrise at KalaPathar Beach

Our journey to chase the first ray of sunlight started at 4am. With the help of our resort, we pre-booked an auto for Kalapathar Beach, known for its captivating dawn. It was another worldly experience to watch the first ray of sun, through the cloudy sky touching the golden shores and illuminating Kalapathar Beach.

Kalapathar Beach is peaceful and less crowded compared to Radhanagar Beach. The scattered rocks, partially submerged uprooted trees and shells along the shores make a unique coastal scene.

After witnessing the epic sunrise and grabbing a quick breakfast, we returned to our accommodation. It was time for some thrilling water sports. No trip to Andaman is complete till you meet marine life, dive into the crystal-clear waters and have a blast!

Scuba Diving in Havelock Island

After a briefing on basic theory and safety guidance; general instruction on underwater scuba gear usage, a few in-water skills like breathing techniques, signs and signals to communicate under water and a few practice sessions, it was time for our first plunge.

Scuba Diving at Beach 2, Havelock Island

Diving into the depths of the Sea is an unforgettable experience. The real magic begins, after diving beneath the surface, a world of awe-inspiring beauty unfolds before the eyes from vibrant coral reefs to the intricate dance of graceful fish gliding through the water. Every moment spent exploring beneath the waves was in awe of the sheer diversity and elegance of ocean life.

After returning and packing we hurried to catch the ferry for Neil Island. It takes about a 1h-15m journey to reach Bharatpur Jetty from Havelock Jetty. Neil Island felt like stepping into a tranquil oasis, after the hustle-bustle of Havelock Island.

Neil Island, pristine beaches, crystal clear water, captivating dawn and dusk, with a peaceful atmosphere makes it the perfect place to relax and unwind the excitement of Havelock Island. The island is a mere 7km from one-end to another and can be easily explored via rented bike/bicycle.

After checking in at accommodation, I found myself at the shores of Bharatpur Beach to explore the vibrant underwater life. I opted for Snorkeling, as I took the dip, the vibrant underwater life beneath the crystal clear water unveiled a colorful world.

Neil Island beach

Natural Bridge Formations.

Next we went to explore the natural wonder in Neil Island. We hopped on auto to reach Laxmanpur Beach-2. It was an 8 mins ride to reach the entry point of the beach, followed by the 100m walk through the rocky path. The path little slippery and partially under water, you have to walk across the dead corals to reach the natural bridge. There are two Natural Bridge Formations. The arch-like rock formation that extends out of the main wall, a unique structure created by the relentless waves crashing the cliff repeatedly.  It is best experienced during low tide, guides are easily available. There is also a natural aquarium formed by the rocks, which is beautiful and you can see some living corals as well.

Sunset at Laxmanpur Beach #1

Laxmanpur Beach-1 is a perfect place to sit peacefully and admire the art of nature, watching the orange orb dip below the horizon while casting the vibrant colors across the sky. Enjoy the sound of waves and magical sunset while sipping some chai from the nearby eatery shacks/stalls.

Port Blair, the capital city of Andaman & Nicobar islands is a perfect blend of history, food, and nature wonder - historic Kalapani Jail, beautiful beach, Munda Pahad trek,  museums and secluded nearby islands, which were once home to British colonists.

Cellular Jail National Memorial:

The Cellular Jail is like a time machine back to when the British ruled. Built over 18 years by the British starting in 1890, While now a renowned tourist destination, during the British colonial era, this prison held countless Indian freedom fighters who courageously rebelled against the oppressive regime.

Cellular Jail National memorial

Originally featuring seven wings with 698 cells, only three wings remain today. The site includes an art gallery, museum, martyrs' memorial, the original gallows, and scenic views from the once-central tower.

Later in the evening we attended the sound-and-light show. It offered a glimpse of the harsh life of our freedom fighters, who were sent for "Kala Pani". Sunset at Chidiya Tapu:

After the day full of travel and different experiences, we decided to end our day. Watching the sunset along with the beautiful endemic and migratory birds is one of the indescribable moments.

Chidiya Tapu translates to Bird Island. It is a great place to watch endemic and migratory birds一Andaman woodpecker, Andaman drongo, white-bellied sea eagle, Pacific reef egret, Andaman treepie, Andaman green pigeon, freckle-breasted woodpecker, white-headed starling and white-breasted woodswallow to name some.

At a short distance (around 1.5km) from Chidiya Tapu is Munda Pahar, promises a beautiful bird's eye view of the sea. Unfortunately,  due to time constraints, we had to skip the trek. South Pole

The South Pole in Port Blair is a place where history comes alive. In 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose proudly raised our National Flag here. Imagine standing where our freedom fighters once stood – it's truly a remarkable experience.

We hopped on a boat (Rs 870 per person) from Aberdeen jetty, to reach Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep  – a place with lots of history.

The tickets can be books at the jetty. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Ross Island from the jetty.

Ruins Of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep (formerly Ross Island)

Ross Island, once the nerve center of British administration during their rule, now it's a mix of ruins and history. The tour among the remnants of British buildings gives a nostalgic vibe.

Ross Island in Andaman Islands

Near the entry, there are Japanese bunkers, during World War II the Japanese converted the island into POW camps, leaving behind the intriguing remnants of war installations, including massive bunkers. After India gained independence, it became the domain of the Indian Navy.

Japanese Bunker in Ross Island in Andaman

Apart from rich history, there are deer, peacocks and other animals that are human friendly, which I found really fascinating.

Timings: Thursday - Tuesday (closed on Wednesday)

The island used to span 200 acres, but due to a 1941 earthquake, it's now a compact 70 acres.

The ferry that brings you to Ross Island also heads to North Bay Beach. North Bay Beach offers a variety of water activities一snorkeling, Scuba diving, and more. It is a more lively place with easy availability of lockers, changing rooms, toilets, market areas, food stalls etc.

Second half of the day we spent exploring the markets and looking for souvenirs, shopping at Sagarika Emporium to take a piece of Island with us as a memory.
