Reaching Gangotri...

Gangotri is visited by spiritual seeker as well as adventurer. It serves as the base camp for Gaumukh Tapovan Trek in Gangotri National Park. Gangotri is only accessible by road, can be reached from Dehradun and Haridwar/Rishikesh.

Gangotri can only be reached by road. you either hire a private cab or more economical options such like bus or shared jeep

By Bus

Take bus to Gangotri from Haridwar bus stand, opposite to Railway Station. There are direct bus from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Gangotri. But Rishikesh has better bus/shared jeep facility than Haridwar. So it is advisible to board bus from Rishikesh. 

The bus starts 4a.m onwards from Garhwal Motor Owners Association bus stand at Rishikesh

Duration : 10-12 hours

Bus Timings : 04a.m. to 08a.m. or 09a.m (during peak season)

➡️ Opt for train to reach Rishikesh from Haridwar to avoid the huge traffic and save time.

 

In case of unavailability of direct bus you can break the journey

Dehradun to Gangotri - 240km/ 8hrs.

Dehradun to Uttarkashi - 142.7km/5 hours.

Uttarkashi to Gangotri - 99.5 km/3 hours.

Haridwar to Gangotri - 287 km/ 9 to 10 hours.

Haridwar/Rishikesh to Uttarkashi - 187.5 km/6 to 7 hours.

Uttarkashi to Gangotri - 99.5 km/3 hours.

This can be done via bus/shared jeep. During Char Dham Yatra the buses fill up quickly. Be sure to check the timings of the bus beforehand.

For more comfortable journey you can either get your car or go for rental car service. Gangotri is well connected to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Kotdwar, Roorkee, Chamba, Tehri, Barkot, HanumanChatti and Janki Chatti.

Route via Haridwar : Haridwar → Rishikesh → Narendranagar → New Tehri → Dharasu Bend → Uttarkashi → Bhatwari → Gangnani → Harsil → Gangotri

Route via Dehradun : Dehradun → Mussoorie → Chamba → New Tehri → Dharasu Bend → Uttarkashi → Bhatwari → Gangnani → Harsil → Gangotri
